I highly agree with you and I disagreed with microsoft creating C# back then. HOWEVER I am very thankful that microsoft did it as Java really stalled with Oracle while C# thrived to become one of the best modern languages.
Java just didn't evolve and never really tried to become a viable language for other tasks. Java would never be a game programming language, for instance, while C# is highly adopted as one.
In fact, the most interesting news from the Java world almost never came from Java itself. Groovy and Scala for instance, or Kotlin's / Dart crosscompilation.
